Advertising & production: a practical starter guide

Write a brief, choose the message and prepare creative work for its real use.

Start with a useful brief

Write who the work is for, what you offer, why it matters and the action you want. A specific brief is easier to evaluate than “make it impressive”.

Match the format to the use

A street sign, mobile ad and print leaflet are different contexts. Check viewing distance, screen size, message length and production specifications before designing.

Review before production

Check spelling, offer accuracy, contact details, asset permissions and the final output specification. Ask the print supplier for their requirements rather than guessing colour profiles or bleed settings.

Try it yourself

Draft a brief for one offer: audience, promise, proof, format and next action. Save it below, then ask a colleague whether the message is clear.

Your draft is not sent to a server or saved between visits. Download your copy before leaving.

A short knowledge check

What should you define before design?
